Newberry College students have many opportunities to engage in scholarly and creative activities, such as National Science Foundation funded REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) programs, SCICU student/faculty research programs or independent studies.

The Newberry College Summer Mentoring And Research Training (SMART) Program was created to add to the academic experience of Newberry College students by providing them with opportunities to do research with faculty during the summer.  The program is intended for motivated students to gain research experience with direct faculty mentoring.  Newberry College SMART student-scholars experience the process of research as a creative intellectual activity in a living-learning environment.       See: SMART link on right.

Newberry College Faculty have active research projects in the fields of: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Psychology, Social Sciences and Music. See ‘Faculty Research’ link, on right.
