Sciences and Mathematics

The Department of Sciences and Mathematics provides incredible opportunities for hands-on engaged learning experiences in biology, chemistry and mathematics. Concentrations and minors provide student learning experiences in forensic chemistry, secondary education. environmental studies, actuarial science and physics.   Students have opportunities to conduct research projects, to participate in internships, to be involved in student teaching, and to recieve field experiences that combine action with learning.  Newberry College is near many of South Carolina's best forensics labs and ecological sites, which facilitates internships and field trips.  Planned renovations to the department facility will provide state-of-the-art lab space to house of cutting edge instrumentation and provide and environment for lab discovery. The department provides outreach opportunities for students to assist event leaders in the South Carolina Science Olympiad and participate in state and regional conferences.  Students visit area schools to conduct science exploration activities with the nationally recognized Newberry College American Chemical Society student chapter.  Students have opportunities to conduct research through collaborative grants with other local universities, apply for Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), and participate in research as part of the Newberry College’s Summer Mentoring and Research Training (SMART) Program.

Pre-professional Health Tracks

Students may prepare for applications to several health and science school degrees, including Chiropractic, Dentistry, Medicine, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Veterinary Medicine.  These are all degree offereings that Newberry College does not offer degrees; we prepare you for application to those schools.  For more details, note the link to the right.
