Are you committed to physical fitness and healthy living? Would you like to channel your love of sport into a career? If so, a major within the Sport Professions program may be for you.

We offer three main Physical Education concentrations for students interested in the sport professions: Leisure Services for students interested in recreation, Sport Management for students interested in sport-oriented business or facility management, and Physical Education with Teacher Certification for students interested in becoming licensed as K-12 Physical Education teachers. In addition, the Sport Professions program offers a numbers of minors for students both in and outside the program, including Athletic Training, Coaching, and Sport Management.

Our mission is to give students the opportunity to become competent leaders in their fields and turn a passion for sport or fitness into viable careers. Each of our majors includes an internship requirement designed to provide both hands-on learning and networking opportunities. Majors are expected to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior and become independent thinkers and lifelong learners. The Sport Professions program emphasizes real life learning, leadership, rigor through research, professionalism, and active participation in campus life at Newberry College.

While many graduates from the Sport Professions program enter the teaching and coaching professions, others enter graduate school or professional schools to pursue careers such as Physical Therapy, or find employment in recreational settings or sports-related businesses. The Sport Professions program seeks to fulfill the College‘s mission by challenging and nurturing students‘ physical well-being and enhancing healthy lifestyles. The physical educators make every effort possible to help in the development of students‘ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains of learning.
