Course requirements for each major within Sport Professions follow. When you begin your work within a major at Newbery College, you will be assigned an advisor who specializes in your area and who will work with you closely to support your academic success and help you meet all requirements for an on-time graduation. Some of the courses required for the different major concentrations may have prerequisites that require additional course work; some of the prerequisites may be used to fulfill Core Curriculum requirements. All Sport Professions majors must satisfy requirements of the Newberry College Core. Participation in a varsity sport may satisfy Area G of the Core. Physical Education/Leisure Services (54 hours)

Physical Education/Teacher Certification (40 hours + Education hours) The Physical Education/Teacher Certification concentration is designed to prepare students for teaching careers in Physical Education. The requirements lead to South Carolina Teacher Certification for grades PK-12 in Physical Education. The 40-hour concentration requires the following.
Candidates should take EDU 224 and 230 during their freshman year, and EDU 232 during the first semester of the sophomore year. These classes are prerequisites for admittance to the Teacher Education Program and all other 300- and 400-level education courses. Schedules for transfer students will be considered on an individual basis. In addition to passing EDU 224, 230, and 224 with at least a C, all candidates must pass or exempt Praxis I reading, writing, and mathematics tests, and apply for and be admitted into the Teacher Education Program.
