Teacher Education at Newberry College
While the Department of Education houses the majors of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education, it also serves as the academic hub for the Teacher Education Program.
This office provides services and information for all students who want to become teachers.
The Teacher Education Office is located in 212 McClurg in the Department of Education and is responsible for assisting students in their planning and academic needs. Some of the main responsibilities of the Teacher Education Office are to communicate with all teacher education students by producing a calendar of important dates at the beginning of each semester, sending out email reminders and information related to becoming a teacher, maintaining all current information related to the Teacher Education Program on this website, and also updating bulletin boards and the electronic bulletin board housed outside the office.

The Teacher Education Office also maintains data on students in the Teacher Education Program, works with those students seeking admission to the Teacher Education Program, coordinates the implementation of ADEPT as outlined by state legislation, handles all field placements for the more than 125 teacher candidates who are placed in public school environments each semester, coordinates advising for teacher education students, and assists with certification paperwork for those applying for certification in South Carolina and in other states.
