MILITARY SCIENCE COURSES
All military science courses are taught at Newberry College. Leadership labs are held at our host institution, Presbyterian College.
MSC 101, 102 (2, 2) First Year Basic
Instruction includes study of leadership, customs and traditions of the Army, branches of the Army, role of the Army Reserve and Army National Guard, selected military operations and tactical tasks.
Class meets twice a week at Newberry College; Lab, once a week at Presbyterian College.
101 offered Fall Semester; 102 offered Spring Semester.
MSC 201, 202 (2, 2) Second Year Basic
Instruction includes principles of war, role of the non-commissioned officer, communications, code of conduct, first aid, selected military operations and tactical tasks.
Class meets twice a week at Newberry College; Lab, once a week at Presbyterian College.
201 offered Fall Semester; 202 offered Spring Semester.
MSC 250 (6) Leader's Training Course (LTC)
Prerequisite: Approval of the Professor of Military Science.
Five weeks of summer training at a military installation. Enrollment is limited to students who have completed no more than one semester of military science and have at least two years remaining before graduation. Travel pay and salary provided. The course may be taken instead of the first and second year basic courses. Camp graduates are eligible for enrollment in advanced military science. This is a pass/fail course only.
Offered only during the summer session.
MSC 301, 302 (3, 3) First Year Advanced
Prerequisite: Military Science 101, 102, 201, 202 or credit for equivalent training approved by the Professor of Military Science. Instruction includes command and staff functions, professional military educations including human behavior, military history, math reasoning, and computer literacy, nuclear, biochemical, and chemical warfare, law of war, weapons, branches of the Army, and a leadership laboratory.
301 offered Fall Semester; 302 offered Spring Semester. Lab meets at Presbyterian College.
MSC 401, 402 (3, 3) Second Year Advanced
Prerequisite: Military Science 301, 302.
Instruction includes military justice, intelligence and electronic warfare, Army personnel management system, Army logistics system, post and installation support, operations and tactics.
401 offered Fall Semester; 402 offered Spring Semester. Lab meets at Presbyterian College.
Written and oral communications, physical training, first-aid, navigation, leadership and ethics are taught throughout the four-year program.
