- English Department Hosted African American "Read-In"
The English Department hosted a celebration of African American literature on Monday, February 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Smeltzer Hall on the Newberry College campus.
Newberry College took part in the 19th Annual African American Read-In. More than a million readers have participated in this national event, sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English. Our read-in featured short selections of works by African American authors, chosen and read by members of the Newberry College community.
More information on the event is available online at www.newberry-college.net/rarmstrong/Read-In.htm.

- Author from North Carolina visited Newberry College
Mr. Ron Rash, an inspiring writer of poetry and fiction, visited the Newberry College campus on Thursday, March 13, 2008.
There was a campus-wide "Meet the Author" question-and-answer session in the recital hall of the Alumni Music Building from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. All students, faculty, and staff were invited to this event. That same night, from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., everyone was invited to attend "An Evening with Ron Rash" in the recital hall. Mr. Rash included readings from his works and insights into his writing and life. Then, from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m., a book signing took place.
