The application form and the items listed below are to be
submitted by all students who seek admission to Newberry College.
There is a $30.00 non-refundable application fee for mailed
applications and a $25.00 non-refundable application fee for
online applications. The application form and payment along
with any other requirements should be sent to:

Freshmen Applicants
Newberry College's personal attention to students begins with
the recruitment and admission processes. Initial contacts
with College are usually made at high school or college fair
visits; however, an official campus visit, including a guided
tour and personal admission interview, is essential for each
student prior to enrollment. The following materials should
be submitted to the Office of Admissions early in the senior
year of high school:

Official score reports of SAT or ACT
Certification of graduation from an approved secondary school
is required prior to enrollment.Under special circumstances,
the General Educational Development Test (GED) is accepted.
Degree seeking Freshmen who are 25 years of age or older and
applying for the regular day program are exempt from submitting
SAT/ACT scores. High School transcripts or acceptable GED
scores are still required. Additionally, a personal admissions
interview to assess the student's qualifications, motivation,
and recent history may be required.
Deadlines
Newberry College specifies no application deadline; the rolling
admissions practice is observed. Therefore, applicants are
notified of their status as soon as the application for admission
and all necessary supporting materials are received and evaluated.
Determination of Admission Status
The Director of Admissions determines the admission status
of all applicants to Newberry College, taking into consideration
the following:
SAT or ACT scores
Grade point average on academic courses
High school rank
Type of course work pursued
Co-Curricular activities
Other relevant factors (e.g., part-time employment, references)
Students whose scores fall below acceptable standards have the opportunity to submit a personal essay for further consideration.
Upon review, applicants may be regularly admitted; required to take a remedial English and/or Math course during summer school at Newberry College; held for additional grades or
test scores; or denied admission.
As soon as possible following the Admissions decision, the
applicant is notified by mail. Acceptance of the applicant
is always contingent upon successful completion of course
work in progress. Following high school graduation, an additional
official final transcript bearing the date of graduation is
required.
Advanced Placement Examinations
Students who score 3 or higher on the final examinations of
Advanced Placement (AP) courses officially sanctioned by The
College Board will receive appropriate college credit in the
academic area tested. See Advanced Placement Acceptance.
Required Courses
Newberry College recommends that prospective students follow
a college preparatory program in high school. The College
requires 14 units of successful high school study. The following breakdown
of these units is recommended:
3 units of English
2 units of Mathematics (Alg I or higher)
2 units of natural/physical science (at least 1 lab science)
2 additional units of English, mathematics, or natural/physical science
2 units of social sciences
3 units from any of the above areas, foreign language , or religion/philosophy
Letters Of Recommendation
Although not required, letters of endorsement and recommendation
from high school guidance counselors, principals, headmasters,
instructors, pastors, employers, and/or Newberry College alumni
are welcome. These will be added to the applicant's file and
may be used to aid in difficult or unusual admission decisions.
Letters of recommendation are required for certain scholarship
awards.
Advance Deposits
Students who are accepted for admission to Newberry College
are asked to confirm their intention to enroll by remitting
an advance deposit of $300, to be divided as follows:
$220 - Housing Deposit/Advanced Tuition
$80 - Orientation Fee
For students entering the fall semester and summer sessions,
the deposit is nonrefundable after May 1. For those entering
the spring semester, the deposit is nonrefundable after December
1.
Transfer
Applicants
- Students with more than 24 semester hours (36 quarter
hours) or who are over the age of 25, are not required to
submit SAT or ACT scores or an official high school transcript.
- Submit all official transcripts from previous or current
colleges.
- Students who have fewer than 24 semester hours (36 quarter
hours) of completed college credit must also submit official
high school transcripts and SAT or ACT Scores.
- Course work over 10 years old will be evaluated after
successful completion of 24 semester hours at NC

Transfer
Evaluation Requirements
- Remedial courses typically do not transfer.
- Courses with grades of “C” or better may be
considered for potential transfer credit.

Scholarship Requirements
- 18 or more semester hours (27 quarter hours) of credit
completed
- 2.5 cumulative transfer GPA
- Transfer Scholarships range from $2,500.00 to $5,000.00
based upon cumulative credit and gpa.
- 2.00 GPA required to renew scholarship
If you are now
enrolled or have recently finished a program of study at a
community/technical college in South Carolina, you may qualify
for advanced credit towards a four year degree from Newberry
College.
Re-Admit
Applicants
Students who withdraw
from Newberry College and who later wish to re-enroll must
apply for readmission through the Admissions Office(online | print)
All readmitted students
must meet entrance and graduation requirements in effect at
the time of readmission.
Expiration
Of Credit
Course work completed
more than ten years prior to graduation is subject to review
by the Registrar to determine its applicability to the degree.
International
Applicants
Newberry College welcomes students from countries outside the United States. International students are valued for the great cultural resources they bring to the Newberry College community.
International applicants for both freshman and transfer admission must submit the following:
Foreign students should apply for admission well before their anticipated date of enrollment because of the delay involved in international communications.
Home
School Applicants
Students completing
a home school or correspondence curriculum should keep the
following points in mind.

Students who
have attended a high school for any amount of time should
request a copy of their transcript to be forwarded to
Newberry College

GED is not necessary
(GED would only be necessary for Title IV federal financial
aid)

All students
will need to provide the Admissions Committee with information
regarding curriculum such as class summaries, papers,
exams, etc. and if he/she is working with a particular
homeschooling association.

Primary instructors
(i.e. parents, etc.) should submit recommendations assessing
the student's academic competence.
-
A bibliography
of high school literature and an essay are necessary to
evaluate a student's exposure and thinking skills.

Although not
necessary, extracurricular activities and interviews will
help determine leadership ability.

Students are
required to submit SAT/ACT scores

Students are
welcome to submit anything they feel will add to their
application before presentation to the Admissions Committee.
Once the Admissions
Office has received all your information, your Admissions and Financial Aid Counselor
will then review your file. A personal interview may be necessary
in some cases. The Admissions Office will contact you when
a decision is made. Our goal is to make this process as easy
as possible.
GED
Applicants
Students completing
the GED ( General Education Development Test ) should keep
the following points in mind.

GED students
younger than 18 years of age must petition the Admissions
Committee to be considered for admission.

All students
completing the GED must submit all required admissions
items, and have successful GED scores, defined as an average
of 45 on all tests, with no individual score lower than
40
-
GED students
who are 25 or older are exempt from taking SAT/ACT tests.

Students not
meeting this requirement may petition the Admissions Committee
to be given special consideration for admission
Non-Degree
Applicants
Students enrolled
for academic credit who are not degree seeking students will
be classified as Special Students at Newberry College.
Students who are
non-degree seeking are not eligible for financial aid under
federal regulations. Special Students are usually concurrent
high school students, students seeking teacher certification
only, or any students who want to just take a course for their
own self improvement or enjoyment. In order to move from Special
Student to degree-seeking student status, a student must be
granted admit status by the Director of Admissions.
AUDITING
A COURSE
Full-time students may audit courses without additional costs,
subject to approval by the instructor and the Office of the
Registrar. Students not enrolled full-time may audit courses
at a rate of $50 per course. Audit status may not be changed
to credit status after the course has begun.
High
School Applicants
For high school students who live within
reasonable commuting distance of the campus, Newberry College
offers the availability of certain college courses. To qualify,
the high school student must have an overall "B" average (3.0
on the 4.0 scale), acceptable PSAT, PACT, SAT or ACT scores,
and a recommendation from a high school administrator. Students
enrolled in this program could be eligible for a special tuition
discount.
