Steps for Applying for Financial
Aid
- Complete and Submit the FAFSA (To receive any financial
aid, you MUST submit a Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA))
- Get a PIN: A PIN is a substitute for signatures on
the FAFSA and allows the FAFSA to be processed more
quickly. The student and one parent must apply for a
PIN from the U. S. Department of Education to file the
FAFSA on the web.
- Go to www.pin.ed.gov.
Choose “Apply for a PIN.”
- Supply all information requested. Be sure all
this information is identical to the information
on the social security card of the person requesting
the PIN.
- Remember the password information you supplied
as a part of your PIN application.
- Submit the request
- Write down the confirmation number of each PIN
you request to verify it was received.
- A PIN will be generated and sent to each applicant
by email within 24 hours. The password you created
during application is required to access the PIN.
If you do not provide an email address, a PIN mailer
will be mailed to the address the applicant entered
on the PIN web site within seven to ten days.
- Filing on the Web:
- Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov
and select "Filling out a FAFSA" in section
2.
- If you already have a PIN, use it to sign electronically
at the beginning of your application.
- Enter personal information and PIN for each required
signature to be authenticated.
- Complete the 2004-2005 FAFSA on-line. You
need your parents’ 2003 tax returns
- List Newberry College, code 00344000 in Step
6 of the FAFSA.
- Print a copy of the on-line application as prompted
by the on-line instructions for your records.
- Transmit the on-line application.
- Print a copy of the transmission confirmation page
for your records.
