Hello everyone! Welcome to the Newberry College website. My name is Sara Willis and I’m from Elkhorn City, Kentucky. What? You’ve never heard of it? I’m shocked! I graduated from Pikeville College in Kentucky in May 2004 with a degree in History. I moved to South Carolina in July and working as an admissions counselor here at Newberry in August.

My whole family is still in Kentucky. I have two younger sisters, Melinda, a freshman at Pikeville College, and Kaitlyn, a sophomore at East Ridge High School. While at Pikeville I played two intercollegiate sports, softball and cross country. I graduated a year early from college, so I only played three years. My final year I was named to the All-Conference First Team and Academic All-Conference Team. I was also named MVP of my team and Best Offensive Player, while leading my team in all offensive categories (except RBIs, I was second) and was among the leaders in my conference in eight out of nine categories. While at Pikeville, I made the Dean’s List six times, including summer school, and was named vice-president of Phi Alpha Theta (a history honor society) as a junior.

Although I miss Kentucky at times, Newberry has really become a home to me. The people here are so hospitable and welcoming. They go out of their way many times to make you feel comfortable here in this small town. It may not be a busy metropolis, but what Newberry lacks in size, it more than makes up for in quality.
