Lisa
Wessinger
Greetings
everyone! Thank you for your interest in Newberry College!
My name is Lisa Ann Wessinger, and I am a May 2005 graduate
of Newberry College! They just couldn’t get enough of
me here at the ‘Ole Berry, so they hired me as a Lutheran
Admissions and Financial Aid Counselor/Recruiter!
Fortunately, I have always had a very strong tie to Newberry
College. Both of my parents are Newberry College Alums, they
were engaged and married in Newberry’s own Wiles Chapel
(also the location of my dad’s ordination), and I grew
up attending numerous Newberry College Lutheran and athletic
events. So as you can see, I was definitely Newberry born
and Newberry bred!
Not only have I always been a Newberry Indian, I have also
grown up being extremely involved in the Evangelical Lutheran
church. My dad is a Lutheran pastor in Columbia, South Carolina,
so I have been involved in the Lutheran church since I was
born! I attended my first Synod Assembly at just 11 months
old, my first WELCA convention at the age of 11, and I was
the SC Lutheran Church Youth President my senior year of high
school. I completely understand and support the idea of Lutheran
Higher Education, and I look forward to sharing with all of
you the wonderful aspects of attending a Lutheran College.
Now for a little bit about my experiences at Newberry! Newberry
College is such a wonderful, special and unique place. I can
not say that statement enough!! Newberry College is truly
a small community, but a BIG family! While at Newberry, I
was able to get involved in numerous activities on campus,
grow academically and spiritually, and I was able to meet/make
some of my best friends, who I know I will treasure for a
lifetime!
Just to give you an idea of my involvement at Newberry…
I was Senior Class President, Student Body Vice-president,
President of my sorority, President of Phi Gamma Nu (Business
Honor Fraternity), a member of Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership
Honor Society) and Blue Key (Honor Society), a participant
in intramural sports and a host and producer of “Fear
the Spear” (Newberry College’s version of Sports
Center J ). I was also the recipient of the Dr. Grady L. Cooper
Award (voted on by my fellow classmates), the Algernon Sydney
Sullivan Award (Given by the President of the College), a
member of Who’s Who and I graduated Magna Cum Laude
with Honors!
Also, I can not begin to explain how well Newberry has prepared
me for the REAL WORLD. I was able to learn so much by being
in small classes, with sometimes as few as 2 students!! Plus,
Newberry gave me the chance to grow outside of the classroom
by giving me the opportunity to participate in several rewarding
internships. They prepared me so well that I am now a graduate
student at the University of South Carolina!! Thanks Newberry
J I value my Newberry College education so much, and I definitely
credit Newberry College for contributing to making me the
person I am today!
So, as you can see, I am a borderline Newberry EXPERT and
I would LOVE to share even more of my experiences with you!
Please feel free to e-mail or call me anytime with any questions
you might have regarding Newberry or just college in general!
I look forward to speaking with you, and I hope to see you
as a Newberry student in the future!!
