Additional Scholarship Opportunities

Newberry College Scholarship Program – Fall 2012

Newberry College has expanded its merit-based scholarship program for incoming freshmen and transfer students for the fall 2012 semester. Here are some examples of new scholarship opportunities.

Leadership Award

Recognition of a student's outstanding leadership in co-curricular activities such as student organizations, clubs, and varsity athletics.

Amount: up to $10,000

Community Service Award

In recognition of a student’s outstanding involvement in community or volunteer service during high school.

Amount: Up to $10,000.

Newberry Community Leadership Scholarship

Awarded to a resident of the City of Newberry who demonstrates outstanding academic potential, personal leadership, and a commitment to civic responsibility, volunteerism and community service.

Amount: $10,000

Constituency Award

In addition to the above leadership and community scholarships Newberry College also has specialized awards based upon participation in the Honors Program, performing, visual and creative arts, campus ministry and other co-curricular activities, emerging academic talent, and various other criteria.

Amount: Varies

Lutheran Ministry Family Member Award

Awarded to children of active ELCA Lutheran ministers or rostered ELCA leaders serving congregations (e.g., licensed lay leaders, diaconal leaders, ordained/commissioned ministry site administrators).

Amount: $5,000 (In addition to Lutheran Heritage Award of $1,000)

Alumni Scholarships

Various scholarships provided or endowed by Newberry College alumni to support various interests, including program and residency requirements.

Amount: Varies per scholarship

Spirit Program Scholarships

Recognizes students’ participation in one of the College’s Spirit Program as a member of the Coed Cheerleading Spirit Team, All-Girl Cheerleading Spirit Team, Competitive/STUNT Team, Dance Team, or Mascot Squad.

Amount: Varies

South Carolina Teachers/Career Changers Loan Program

Established by the State of South Carolina to encourage talented and qualified students to enter the teaching profession and teach in the state in areas of critical need.

Amount: Up to $5,000 per year for South Carolina Teachers Loan Program; up to $15,000 for South Carolina Career Changers Program
