This wonderfully
restored house, located at 1900 College Street, less than
a block from Kinard Hall, is a gift by the Dufford family
(C.A., Bill, and Doris). It houses the Alumni and Church Relations Director's office.
It is used for a variety of events for alumni and friends.
The downstairs rooms, porch and yard may be rented by alumni
and friends for special events and functions.
History
The Dufford Alumni
House at Newberry College is a generous gift of Dr. C. A.
Dufford, '42, Dr. William Dufford, '49,and Ms. Doris Dufford,
'46. The Dufford Family gave the house in July 1999 in a fee
simple deed. The primary purpose of the Dufford House is for
functions sponsored by the Alumni Association and affiliated
groups.
The Dufford House
opened in 1999 after extensive renovations and decorations,
paid for by the Dufford family. At that time the External
Affairs offices, including Alumni Relations, relocated from
Holland Hall to the Dufford House.
A Dufford House
Task Group assists with the oversight of this facility.
The Dufford Alumni
House is a resource for Newberry College, its alumni and friends.
The primary use is for functions sponsored by the NC Alumni
Association and/or groups affiliated with the Alumni Association
or College. Outside groups or individuals may use the House,
if it is available, and as long as the guidelines for use
are followed. The person and group renting the facility is
responsible for insuring that the rules and regulations are
followed and that the House is appropriately cared for and
cleaned following use.
The Dufford House
has three downstairs rooms which are available for groups
and organizations. They are formal rooms and include a living
room, dining room, and music room. There is also a kitchen
complete with a toaster, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker,
refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. The front and side porches
enlarge the space, depending upon the type of function and
weather. Two restrooms in the back office area of the house
are available for use. Access to the house for guests is by
the kitchen door. A set of keys will be provided.
If requested and
arranged in advance, the College can provide a limited number
of 6 foot tables and folding chairs, and possibly sound equipment
or other systems.
