As you explore and grow in your faith, Campus Ministry can provide fun activities, a sense of community, and a spiritual education. Everyone, regardless of faith tradition, denomination affiliation, or age is invited to be a part of Campus Ministry at Newberry College.

Meet the Campus Pastor

Reverend Worman or "Pastor Ernie," as he is known on campus, has been in the ministry for over 20 years as a congregational minister and a retired Navy Chaplain. He has lived in 12 of the U.S. states as well as Japan and Italy.

Weber Ministry House

Pastor Ernie serves as the principal worship leader and coordinates the weekly chapel services in Wiles Chapel.  Weber Ministry House also serves as a meeting place for various campus religious groups.

Information About Campus Ministry Groups
  • Groups are guided by an advisor from the faculty or staff
  • Each group is a registered organization on campus
  • Groups elect their own officers and have an approved constitution and by-laws
  • The president of each group serves on the Christian Council, along with faculty and staff members appointed to the committee by the Faculty Council
  • Groups have regularly scheduled meetings throughout the school year
  • Each group takes a turn leading chapel
  • Groups work cooperatively with the other organizations to plan events for the entire campus
  • Groups take part in community service projects including the Safe-Kids Halloween and a Christmas Toy Drive

Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM)

  • President: Anthony Carosiello
  • Advisor: Rev. Dr. Christian Hipp
  • Meets on Mondays at 9:00 p.m. in the Weber Ministry House
  • Enjoy food, fellowship, and Bible Study
  • Participates in community service projects

Christians Living Among You (CLAY)

  • President: Trisha Wilson 
  • Advisor: Dr. Mike Beggs
  • Meets on Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. in Wiles Chapel
  • An ecumenical group that meets for praise and worship, Bible study, and fellowship
  • Participates in a wide variety of service projects and retreats

Lutheran Student Movement (LSM)

  • President: Steven Dorrell
  • Advisor: Rev. Dr. Christina Wendland
  • Meets on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. in the Weber House
  • Offering discussion, Bible study, prayer groups, and fellowship
  • Provides leadership training opportunities
  • Participates in a variety of service and ministry projects as well as regional and national LSM events

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

  • President: Faith Carnes
  • Advisor: Brian McCants
  • Meets on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. in the Weber Ministry House
  • Offering prayer and praise and an opportunity to hear local speakers share their faith
  • Participates in local, regional, and national FCA events

Metoka Galeda

  • President: Ashley Holland
  • Director: Brandon Waller
  • Meets on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. in the Alumni Music Center
  • Metoka Galeda is Swahili for "young men, young women"
  • Promotes unity, love, joy, and faith through Christian and community service
  • Multi-cultural Gospel Choir that performs locally and throughout the United States
  • Participates in community service projects

Pre-Seminary Group

  • Meets various times throughout the year in the Weber House
  • Open to all those seeking a vocation in public ministry
  • Group discusses the challenges of ministry, offers support to one another, and visits seminaries
  • Consists of students of various denominations who may be interested in serving the church as a pastor, youth director, church musician, deacon, or Director of Christian Education

ECHO: Each Committed to Helping Others

  • President: Keely Ballentine
  • Advisor: Dr. Joe McDonald
  • Meets on Tuesdays at 7:00 at the Weber House
  • Open to everyone on campus
  • Service projects on campus, in the community, and globally
  • Consists of students from all types of backgrounds, ages, majors, etc.
