Assistant Field Hockey Coach

Job Description:  This position is responsible for recruiting, skill instruction, scouting of opponents, correspondence, organizing home visits, organizing official visits and unofficial visits and coaching members of the Field Hockey Team during competition.

Core Job Functions:

  1. Remain current on SACS criteria and ensure compliance in area of control.
  2. Teach sport specific skills throughout the season as related to individual performance development.
  3. Coordinate a sport specific recruiting strategy.
  4. Responsible for administrative work related to team travel, purchasing, equipment and expenditures.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. (Master's degree preferred). With one to two collegiate coaching experience including effective leadership, communication, coaching and recruiting skills.

Students in Transition Coordinator

Job Description: This position will report to the Director of the Center for Student Success and is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating first year experience initiatives. These initiatives should serve as a bridge to the second year experience. The Students in Transition Coordinator will also provide program coordination and work collaboratively to design and implement second year experience initiatives and experiences, including working closely with Residence Life staff.  Additionally, this candidate will assist with the overall retention efforts of the College through a variety of functions (i.e., freshmen advising,teaching a first year/second year experience course, assisting exploratory students, committee responsibilities etc.).

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree is required (master’s degree and two years of experience in the higher education field are preferred).

Administrative & Research Assistant

Job Description:  The Administrative and Research Assistant will provide support to the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness and the Associate Director of Institutional Research as required in the research, analysis and compilation of data for external and internal reports:in tracking scheduled reports; in archiving submitted external reports;tracking and maintaining institutional assessment data; and in assisting other departments with data requests.  Also,provide routine administrative support for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.

Requirements: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts,preferable in business administration, math, accounting, computer science or a related field with a propensity for math, statistics or data. Two plus years of office administrative experience.

Director of Housing and Residence Life

Position Description:  Reporting to the Dean of Student Affairs, the Director of Housing and Residential Life provides strategic vision and leadership to enhance the operations, programs and services of the residence life program -- currently housing 850-900 students throughout 7 residence halls, managed by 3 full-time Residence Hall Directors and Resident Advisors.  This senior member of the Student Affairs leadership team initiates planning and implementation strategies to insure  current residence halls are maintained and future building projects are managed efficiently and effectively.  The Director will work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Students to facilitate student engagement in educational opportunities designed to build community and citizenship, to support student well-being and success, and to create meaningful connections with the academic community.  The Director will manage policies and procedures within the Residence Hall.

In support of the College's strategic priorities, the Director will collaborate within the Student Affairs Division, and across campus, to craft a vision for the development of vibrant Living and Learning Communities where faculty involvement and a broad range of co-curricular programming are valued.The Director will serve as an advocate for students' educational needs and interests and program satisfaction with living on-campus.  Additional responsibilities include:  providing leadership in response to student crises; collaborating with the Student Affairs leadership team on strategic planning; supervision of professional residence directors and student staff; and managing the student conduct process.

Candidates will be successful and innovative leaders and managers who are able to demonstrate professional experience appropriate to the range responsibilities of the Director of Housing and Residence Life.  Qualified candidates will have a Master's degree in higher education or related field and at least three-five years of professional housing experience, preferably at an Associate Director or Director level.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate passion to serve the needs of students, work successfully in a diverse setting of people and ideas; develop and communicate a vision for creative and innovative ways the department can support Newberry's educational mission; and experience developing Living and Learning Communities and other co-curricular and service programs.

Residence Hall Director - Walker Hall and Oakland Mill

Position Description:  Residence Hall Director for Oakland Mill and Walker Hall, responsible for implementing a comprehensive residential program to facilitate student engagement in educational opportunities designed to build community and citizenship, support for student well-being and success; and meaningful connections with the academic community.

Department Duties

  1. Recruit, hire, supervise, train and mentor the Resident Assistant staff.
  2. Coordinate opening and closing of halls to include room inspections.
  3. Develop comprehensive programming plans designed to meet the needs of the specific hall.
  4. Work with facilities management to maintain residence halls and to plan for future enhancements and renovations.
  5. Maintain housing information in Jenzabar, both data entry and reporting.
  6. Perform on-call duties as required including a rotating duty schedule.
  7. Assist, as needed, in crisis and emergency situations.
  8. Work with Residence Life to manage housing assignments and to develop relevant and timely residence life policies.
  9. Other duties as assigned.
Student Development

  1. Serve as mentor for students providing guidance and referrals as needed.
  2. Foster community within the Halls, mediating and facilitating as needed.
  3. Conduct disciplinary counseling and judicial hearings for violations to the Residence Life policies and/or the Code of Conduct.
  4. Serve as a student advocate and educator; available and accessible to students on a scheduled and non-scheduled basis.
  5. Actively participate in the First Year Experience Program as requested by the Dean, possibly included teaching a FYE course.
  6. Other duties as assigned.
Campus-Wide Responsibilities

  1. Serve on the Student Affairs Leadership Team and plan an integral role in planning campus programs with faculty and other campus departments such as:  Summer Orientation, Homecoming, Family Weekend, student organization leadership training and other events unique to Newberry College.
  2. As a live-in employee it is expected that interaction will take place at various activities and in the dining hall on a regular basis.
  3. Maintain current on SACS criteria and perform regular assessment activities to ensure compliance and that best-practices are being employed.
  4. Other duties as assigned.
Specialized Assignment

  1. Serve as a college conduct officer, overseeing all communications, hearing, sanctioning and follow-up.
Requirements:  Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.  2-5 years of experience preferred, 1-3 years of experience required.
