Director of Housing and Residential Life

Position Description:  The Director of Housing and Residential Life provides strategic vision and leadership to enhance the operations, programs and services of the residential life program -- currently housing approximately 850 students throughout 7 residential areas, managed by 3 full-time Residence Directors and graduate assistants.  The senior member of the Student Affairs leadership team initiates planning and assessment activities to facilitate student engagement in educational opportunities designed to build community and citizenship; support for student well-being and success; and meaningful connections with the academic community. In support of the College's strategic priorities, the Director will have the opportunity to craft a vision for the development of vibrant Living and Learning Communities where faculty involvement and a broad range of co-curricular programming are valued.  The Director will serve as an advocate for students' educational needs and interests and program satisfaction with living on-campus.  Additional responsibilities include: providing leadership in response to student crises; collaborating with the Student Affairs leadership team on strategic planning; supervision of professional residence directors and student staff; and managing the student conduct process. 

Qualifications: Candidates will be successful and innovative leaders and managers who are able to demonstrate professional experience appropriate to the range of responsibilities of the Director oh Housing and Residential Life. Qualified candidates will have a masters degree in higher education and at least three-five years of professional housing experience.  Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate passion to serve the needs of students; work successfully in a diverse setting of people and ideas; develop and communicate a vision for creative and innovative ways the department can support Newberry's educational mission; and have experience developing Living and Learning Communities and other co-curricular and service programs.

Remuneration includes compensation commensurate with experience and education, on-campus house if desired by candidate, board plan when classes are in session, and a benefits package.

Residence Director

Position Description: Newberry College seeks a highly energetic  student affairs educator to serve as a Residence Director for an assigned residence hall(s) within a system that houses 850 students throughout seven residential areas, and is managed by the Director of Housing and Residential Life, three FTRD’s and several graduate assistants.

The Residence Director is responsible for implementing a comprehensive residential program to facilitate student engagement in educational opportunities designed to build community and citizenship; support for student well-being and success; and meaningful connections with the academic community.

In support of the College’s strategic priorities, the Residence Director will have the opportunity to work with the Director in developing a vision for vibrant Living and Learning Communities where faculty involvement and a broad range of co-curricular programming are valued and core to the College’s mission.

The Residence Director plays a critical role in bringing together faculty, staff and students to create a campus residential environment that truly exemplifies our mission of “Passion, Purpose and Personal Attention.”  Specific areas of focus include:

1.  Supervise, train and mentor the Resident Assistant staff.

2.  Work collaboratively with faculty to develop Living and Learning Communities that provide residents with opportunities to enhance academic excellence and experiential learning inside and outside the classroom.

3. Serve on the Student Affairs Leadership Team and play an integral role in planning campus programs with faculty and other campus departments such as:  Summer Orientation,Homecoming, Family Weekend, student organization leadership training, and other events unique to Newberry College.

4. Respond effectively and manage emergency/crisis situations as part of the campus support team.

5. Serve as the primary hearing officer for the assigned residence hall(s) in support of the College’s educational student conduct process.

6. Expand your knowledge and experience by leading new initiatives and becoming engaged in campus and community committees, projects and programs that complement your personal and professional interests and goals.

7. Serve as a student advocate and educator; available and accessible to students on a scheduled and non-scheduled basis.

The Residence Director is a full-time, live-in position.  Remuneration includes compensation commensurate with experience and education, furnished on-campus apartment, board plan when classes are in session, and a benefits package.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Higher Education. Strong and sincere passion and commitment for students’ academic and personal development and success.  Progressive leadership, collaboration and management skills.

Strength and Conditioning Intern 

Job Description:  Intern for Strength and Conditioning will work with the Strength and Conditioning Coach on a schedule designated by the coaches.  Position lasts 10 months with a compensation of $10,000 stipend plus all-inclusive school housing.  Assisting with daily strength and conditioning operations; assisting with programming for 17 intercollegiate Division II programs (including Football, Wrestling, Women's Lacrosse, and Field Hockey). Assisting with daily team workouts, maintaining the strength and conditioning facilities and consulting with the Athletic Training staff on return to play issues; other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree (required).A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is required.  Positive attitude.Ability to support the goals and mission of the College.  Ability and desire to support College functions.

Director of Financial Reporting

Job Description: Position of Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for the financial reporting function of the College including preparation and distribution of financial statements to accurately reflect the financial position of the Institution.  Responsible for financial reports to various outside entities including IPEDS, and accrediting bodies.  Ensures that documentation complies with College policies, professional standards, GAAP reporting guidelines, FASB pronouncements, NACUBO guidelines and NCAA requirements.  Maintains accurate and timely financial data.  Acts as liaison and oversees the work of the external auditors.  Additional duties include managing fixed asset accounting, ensuring the accuracy of the financial system by working with the Director of Accounting to ensure that the Jenzabar chart of accounts is maintained and updated and new accounts are established as necessary.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in a related area, CPA certification, proven ability to prepare financial statements, and demonstrated knowledge of GAAP (FASB) and not for profit accounting.  Experience in private Higher Education, knowledge of SACS standards and Jenzabar preferred.

Additional Qualifications: Ability to work with complex automated systems; Good oral and written communication skills; Strong analytical skills with the ability to summarize detailed data into meaningful management reports and interpret policies; Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and perform detailed work; Ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals; Ability to establish and document adequate internal controls.
