College Street Jazz Connection to Perform

September 20, 2012

Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join us for an afternoon of jazz at Newberry College’s second Jazz on the Lawn concert. The event will be held Sunday, September 23 at 2:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Alumni Music Center.

The concert, hosted by the College Street Jazz Connection, began last year as a fundraiser for the group. The College Street Jazz Connection is the collective name for all of Newberry College’s jazz combos. There are two combos at Newberry College, led by Associate Professor of Music, Dr. Barry McGinnis and Adjunct Instructor of Music, Dr. John Roberts. The combos have received excellent and superior ratings at festivals across the country. They will be joined this year by alumni Shannon Pinkney on piano. Pinkney, a former member of the College Street Jazz Connection, is working in Columbia, S.C. as a professional jazz pianist.

Admission is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available for purchase. Donations will gladly be accepted, all proceeds go toward purchasing new music for the ensembles and funding their trips to jazz festivals. For more information contact
