East Hall Renamed Walker Hall

January 28, 2013

Newberry, S.C. – Walker Hall was unveiled to the public at a ceremony on January 25. The former East Hall was dedicated to the previous Chairman to the Board of Trustees, Billy Walker.  The decision to rename East Hall came directly from the Board of Trustees as a way to show their gratitude to Walker for his service.

“Billy Walker served 12 years as chairman; he served with passion beyond compression, giving not only time but his heart. The most effective way to reward him was by naming a building after him,” said Hap Pearce, current Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Walker graduated from Newberry College in 1969 with a B.A. in political science and earned a J.D. from the University of South Carolina in 1973. Also in 1973 he was admitted to the South Carolina Bar. He was elected to the board in 1997 and selected as chairman in 2002. Walker is currently partner in the firm of Walker & Morgan, LLC attorneys at law in Lexington, South Carolina.

“Newberry College has been a God send to me. It is a place that has looked after me and taken care of me, and I’ve been trying to make up for it however I can,” said Walker.
