Musicians Perform To Benefit Newberry Women’s Golf Team

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Three national musicians will headline the “Songwriters in the Round” show this month to help raise funds for the women’s golf team at Newberry College.

The event will be held April 26 at the Newberry Opera House. A silent auction and cash bar will kick off activities at 6 p.m., followed by the featured musical show at 8 p.m.

The first featured musical artist of the event will be guitarist and songwriter Steve Cropper, a member of the original Blues Brothers band. Cropper played guitar on Otis Redding’s recording of “Sittin’ On the Dock of the Bay” and Sam & Dave’s “Soul Man”. Cropper is a member of several music and songwriting halls of fame and has toured with Rod Stewart, John Prine, The Jeff Beck Group, Ringo Starr and John Lennon.

The second featured artist of the event will be Mark Bryan, lead guitarist, songwriter and founding member of Hootie and the Blowfish. Bryan has toured and recorded music for more than 20 years and has also recorded solo albums and produced songs for other artists.

The third featured artist of the event will be Patrick Davis, singer/songwriter, who has composed songs for Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum and Jewel. A native of Camden, S.C., he co-wrote Jason Michael Carroll’s Top-10 hit, “Where I’m From” and co-wrote 11 songs with Jewell in 2011.

Admission to “Songwriters In the Round” is $50 per person. Tickets may be purchased through the Newberry Opera House at 803-276-6264 or at the box office and online at .

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Newberry Women’s Golf Team. Sponsorships for the team are also available.
