Three Newberry Student Athletes Earn Academic All America

June 06, 2013

Newberry College’s Julia Daneshfar (women’s golf), Seiji Borja (wrestling) and Lisa Brandl (women’s golf) have been named 2013 Capital One Academic All-Americans on the at large teams, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday. Daneshfar earned first team honors, while Borja and Brandl are on the third team.

The trio are part of 12 all-time Academic All-Americas at Newberry. Daneshfar and Brandl are two of three women's golfers to earn the honor, joining Maria Luz Besio's 2012 honor. Borja is Newberry’s first wrestler to earn the distinction and is the first of the 12 to do so prior to his senior year.

The three Academic All-Americans named Wednesday mark the largest class in the school's history and the sixth consecutive academic year with at least one Academic All-America. 75% of Newberry’s all-time Academic All-Americans have been named in the last six academic years.
