Newberry College Nursing Professor and Student Recognized at SC Palmetto Gold Gala

April 28, 2014

Lillian Bouknight, Newberry College assistant professor of nursing, and student nurse, Victoria Hall, were both recently recognized at the Palmetto Gold Gala in Columbia, S.C.

Bouknight received the Palmetto Gold Award and was recognized as one of the top nurses in the state. She has taught nursing at Newberry College, and she specializes in mental health and psychiatric nursing.

Hall, a senior student nurse, was named the 2014 South Carolina Palmetto Gold Scholarship recipient. She has been a student nurse intern in the VALOR program at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. She will graduate in May and plans to work as a nurse in an acute care setting after becoming a registered nurse.

Sponsored by the S.C. Nurses Foundation, the Palmetto Gold Gala recognizes 100 nurses annually who exemplify excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the nursing profession. Its purpose it is to fund annual scholarships for each nursing program in South Carolina.

“I am grateful for Newberry College,” Hall said. “The dedicated faculty in the nursing department, and our relationship with Lexington Medical Center- three major influences that have created endless opportunities and have helped me develop from a student to a young professional over the years. It has been such an honor, not only to receive the prestigious Palmetto Gold Nursing Scholarship, but to be able to represent Newberry College among some of the finest nurses in South Carolina."
