Blessing of the Hands Ceremony to Recognize Newberry Nursing Students on October 12

October 10, 2011

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Newberry College and the Department of Nursing will hold a “Blessing of the Hands” ceremony, on October 12, 2011, in Wiles Chapel starting at 10 a.m. This ceremony is open to the public and will recognize the junior nursing students entering their clinical area of studies and will honor the recipients of nursing scholarships for the current year.

The ceremony is held each fall before the junior nursing students enter the clinical area to begin to socialize them as new nursing students to the nursing profession, the ANA Code of Ethics, and the responsibility for providing holistic and evidence-based care by hands that are guided by the hearts and spirits of the students/nurses to promote healing in those they touch.

During the ceremony, senior students and nursing faculty convey the importance of caring, holism, evidence-based practice, and Christian values to nurses and their patients.

Nurses and nursing students in the audience are invited to have their hands blessed and dedicated/rededicated also.
