Newberry College

Individuals found in violation of Newberry College’s Alcohol Policy will have their alcohol confiscated and disposed of. Students will be notified in writing by the Dean of Students or his/her designee regarding the violation and informed of the College’s disciplinary process. The following are possible sanctions that may be imposed depending on the nature of the incident and if the student has previous disciplinary history.

First Offense

• Placed on Conduct Warning or Conduct Probation for a period of 6 months.
• Attend an alcohol/drug education class with the College Counselor
• Pay a $50.00 fine within five (5) class days of notification.
• Campus service (1 – 10 hours)
• Notification to parent or guardian if under 21 years of age.
• Research paper (three pages) on the dangers of alcohol

Second Offense

• Placed on Conduct Probation replace with: a designated period.
• Attend an alcohol/drug education class with the College Counselor
• Pay a $50.00 fine within five (5) class days of notification
• Campus service (5 – 10 hours)
• Referral to the College’s Conduct Review Board.
• Conference with the Dean of Students
• Notification to parent or guardian if under 21 years of age.
• Reflection paper on the effect of a possible suspension from the College due to related alcohol or drug incidents.

Third Offense

• Referral to the Conduct Review Board.
• Required to receive outside alcohol/drug counseling, at the students cost.
• Conference with the Dean of Students
• Notification to parents or guardian added: if under 21 years of age.
