Representative : Within a team environment, the Veterans Service
Representative (VSR) functions as (1) a counselor or advocate
for VA claimants providing information about a broad range
of benefits and assisting with applications for VA benefits

benefit determinations, (3) a decision maker weighing the
evidence and applying the controlling laws and regulations,

Veterans Service
Representative (Rating) : The incumbent is responsible for
the collection of evidence and medical documentation for specific
rating cases, for screening incoming rating cases and determining
whether cases are ready for final rating action. Becomes familiar
with the facts necessary to determine the relationship or
disability or death due to military service and evaluating
disability resulting from disease or injury. This includes,
but is not limited to, initial disability compensations cases;
confirmed decisions on reopened claims for disability compensation;
pension claims to include special monthly pension; entitlement
to temporary total rating based on VA hospitalization; competency
determinations; and service connected death claims. Prepares
accurate and timely examination requests on disability claims.
Evaluates the evidence, makes finding of fact, applies applicable
laws and regulations, subject to review and concurrence by
a senior rating specialist and/or medical officer. With assistance
from a Senior Rating Specialist, prepares Statements of the
Case when the decision has been put in proper disagreement
by the claimant. All decisions, Statement of the Case, or
other correspondence must contain proper citation of issues,
evidence, facts and pertinent laws applicable to the issue
presented. Must be familiar with the use of Title 38 United
States Code: 38 Code of Federal Regulations; VA regulations;
1945 Rating Schedule of Disabilities; and all manual directives
and procedures relating to the rating process. Muse use and
become familiar with attendant medical information directly
related to claims.
Legal Administrative
Specialist: Counsels veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries
via telephone regarding the full array of benefits available
through the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as non-VA
benefits available through other organizations concerned with
veterans. Incumbent explores all avenues of assistance available
to veterans, beneficiaries, and dependents and takes positive
action to encourage individuals to fully utilize these benefits.

Family counselors work in Intercept, our home based counseling

Summer Internship:
The Internship Program provides an excellent opportunity to
gain hands-on experience while truly impacting the lives of

The internship
is 10 weeks long and begins the Tuesday following Memorial
Day. Most interns are placed in Memphis or Nashville working
out residential centers or group homes, however, there are
opportunities to intern with our Intercept program in East
TN as well as other locations outside of Memphis and Nashville
. The internship is paid at $6.50 per hour. Interns in Memphis
can take advantage of affordable housing on the campuses of
Christian Brothers University or university of Memphis . More

the program.
