Greek Life offers
students the opportunity to enhance their Newberry College
experience through the unique opportunities offered by participating
in fraternity and sorority activities. Fraternities and sororities
promote scholarship, provide leadership opportunities, build
lasting friendships, encourage community service and philanthropy
and allow for social and athletic opportunities.
The Office of Greek
Life currently advises 8 fraternities and sororities, and
strives to enhance the student experience as member of the
Greek community while providing programs to enhance leadership
development, community service involvement and academic excellence.
Each organization is governed by their respective councils:
IFC, NPC and NPHC .
Each fall, the Office
of Greek Life host a ' Meet the Greek Night'
on campus, which offers an opportunity for students to learn
more about each of the collegiate chapters. Also, each fraternity
and sorority will have several programs (socials & community
service) open to the campus prior to recruitment week to gather
interest in Greek Life at Newberry.
Students who are
interested in joining a fraternity and sorority will participate
in a process called Recruitment.
Recruitment involves six of the collegiate chapters, lasts
one week and occurs during the fall semester. If you are interested
in joining one of the NPHC fraternities, that process is called
Membership Intake . The intake process
is different than Recruitment and actually begins with informational
meetings that occur in the fall and spring semesters.
