CO-ED INTRAMURAL DODGEBALL RULES
TEAMS

Participants must all be Newberry College student, faculty or staff members.

All teams must consist of a minimum of 6 players and a maximum of 20 players.
Teams may start a game with a minimum of 4 players on the court.

If the game starts with more then 6 players to a team, both teams must have the same amount of players on the court.

Each participant may only play on one team.

RULES
Teams will play one match, which will be best 3 out of 5 games.

Extra players exceeding the start number (usually 6) will be the first players to enter on a re-entry caught ball, but each team must make sure that they never exceed the designated number of players on the court.

Each team shall have (1) one-minute time out.
Both teams will lineup on the end line of their respective court.
6 balls will be placed on the center line, equidistant from the sidelines.
The official will then blow the whistle to start the game. At the whistle, players may run up to retrieve the balls, but must take the ball back behind the attack line before they may throw it.

Each player has (10) seconds to make an attempt on the other team after gaining possession. If the player holds the ball longer than ten seconds, the official will announce “Ten Seconds”. At this point the player with possession for longer than ten seconds must make an attempt. If the player does not make an attempt, the official will call for the ball and bounce it into the opposite court. Play continues.

A ball deflected off another ball held by a player is live until the thrown ball touches the ground. If it strikes any part of the player's hands or any other part of his/her body, he/she is out whether struck before or after the deflection, unless the ball is caught before hitting the ground. However, if the thrown ball knocks the held ball out of a player's hands and no other player catches the ball, that player is out and anyone else the deflected ball hits is also out.

A player is called OUT:

a. When they are struck by a ball before the ball strikes the ground. If the ball strikes two players before hitting the ground, both players are out. The first player struck will be out before the second player for purposes of the First Out First In rule.

b. When their attempt is caught by a player of the opposing team prior to striking the ground. The ball may strike another player first.

c. When during play, a player steps on any boundary marker, leaving the court (except to retrieve a loose ball).

d. Any attempt that strikes a player above the shoulders (except when a player ducks in attempt to miss a ball and it hits above the shoulders).

e. When a player intentionally kicks a ball.

d. Loitering outside of the boundaries when retrieving a ball or attempting to strike while outside of the boundaries.

At any time during a game, if a player is called OUT by an official, they must go immediately to the Player Return Area. They should exit the court quickly and make every attempt to avoid interfering with play.

Returnees : a player that has been put OUT, is allowed to return to the game when a member of the same team catches an attempt of the other team before the attempt has struck the ground, wall, official, or other item not natural to the playing court. Returnees will always return in First Out First In (FOFI) order.

Play is continuous as each team makes attempts at putting the other team's players OUT until all players on one team are OUT at the same time.

There will be 2 minutes between games. Players shall change courts and take positions without delay.

GAMES
The referee has full authority on game decisions once the game begins.

Referees may forfeit the game at any time if a player's conduct is believed to be abusive.

All teams must be ready at their designated game time, if not, a forfeit will be awarded.
