CO-ED INTRAMURAL FLAG FOOTBALL RULES


TEAMS

All teams must consist of a minimum of 7 players and a maximum of 12 players.
Each participant may only play on one team.

Teams may start a game with a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 7 players on the field.
Practicing/participating football players may not participate. Red-shirt freshmen not practicing may participate as long as they are inactive for the school team.

RULES
The game will consist of two 20 minute halves. Halftime will be 5 minutes.
The clock will be stopped in case of injury, fights, extra points, at the referee's discretion and on dead balls in the last 2 minutes of play in each half.

Each team shall have 1 time out per half, consisting of one minute each. Unused first half timeouts do not carry over to the second half.
Touchdowns will count for 6 points a piece.
Extra points: 1pt from 3 yards, 2 points from 10 yards, no extra point kicks.
There will be no punting or kicking of the ball. Teams will throw the ball off instead of the initial punt when changing offense to defense.

The use of hands is not permitted for blocking.


Overtime -

Each team will have the chance to score in series of four downs from the 10 yard line.

If the score is still tied after each team has had a try, a second series is played and so on until a winner is determined.
Each player shall wear a set of IM approved flags on their hips with their shirts tucked in.

All participants must wear closed toed shoes. Rubber molded cleats will be allowed. Cleats are to be no longer then ½ inch. No metal cleats will be allowed. The referees/supervisors may approve or disapprove all cleats.
No player shall have pockets on his/her shorts.


GAMES
The referee has full authority on game decisions once the game begins.

Referees may forfeit the game at any time if a player's conduct is believed to be abusive.

Only the team captain may speak to the officials.
All teams must be ready at their designated game time, if not, a forfeit will be
 awarded.
Possession of the ball or defense of the goal will be decided by a flip of a coin in the first half. The receiving team in the first half will automatically be the throwing team in the 2 nd half.
