First
Year Experience Program
As
incoming freshmen, students often find themselves away from
home, family and friends, and familiar surroundings for the
very first time. Newberry College has developed and implemented
the First Year Experience Program to help freshmen succeed,
not only in their FYE classes, but also in all academic, social,
and other activities.
During
their freshmen year, the First Year Experience Program offers
students two seminar-based courses (Fall
and Spring semester). The classes are taught by
faculty and staff who serve as FYE mentors and will academically
advise students in their majors. Through various activities
that make up the curriculum for these courses, students share,
learn, and discuss issues pertinent to their lives and the
world around them. The hope is that by the end of the program,
Newberry College students are better-equipped for the changes
and challenges that lie ahead, both in their remaining years
at Newberry College, and in their lives after graduation.

Introduction (2)
COL
101 is a seminar course designed to introduce students to
