Sydnee Stephens Named April Student of the Month

Sydnee Stephens, a senior from Gaffney, S.C., has been named Newberry College’s Student of the Month for April 2008.    Stephens will graduate in May with a degree in political science and plans to attend Appalachian State University where she will study international relations. She hopes to one day receive a job with the State Department.   “I feel that Newberry College has been the perfect environment for me to grow as an individual,” said Stephens. “The success I have found here has given me the confidence and leadership skills necessary to go out into the world and make a difference.”

 An active member of Greek Life on the Newberry College campus, Stephens has served as president of Panhellenic Council and is a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She currently serves as vice president for Newberry College Student Ambassadors and captain of the cheerleading squad. 

“The Student Government Association chose Sydnee as the April Student of the Month because she is a well-rounded individual with stellar performances in athletics, academics and other campus activities,” said Bethany Boller, SGA president. “Sydnee is a prime example of the dedicated and motivated leaders at Newberry College.”  

The Student of the Month award recognizes students who not only excel academically, but who also exhibit superior leadership qualities and dedication to Newberry College. Once appointed, the featured student receives a month of publicity on campus, as well as space on Newberry College's web site highlighting their accomplishments and the areas in which they are involved on campus.
