Celebrating Transgender Awareness Week

Transgender Awareness Week

Newberry College marked Transgender Awareness Week with a series of impactful events aimed at raising awareness, promoting inclusivity, and supporting the transgender community. The week included informative activities and open discussions, providing a safe space for learning and reflection.

  • Transgender Awareness Week Information Table (Tuesday, November 12)
Students, faculty, and staff gathered to enjoy cupcakes and engage with resources about the transgender community. Attendees also received buttons to show their support throughout the week (Nov. 13-19).

  • “Voices of Resilience: A Transgender Experience Panel” (Monday, November 18)
This intimate panel discussion featured personal stories and insights from transgender individuals. Moderated by Dr. Jodie Peeler, panelists shared their experiences, challenges, and strategies for navigating life as transgender people. The event aimed to dispel myths and educate attendees about transgender identities, fostering an inclusive environment. The conversation encouraged respectful, open dialogue about issues impacting the transgender community.

These events exemplified Newberry College’s ongoing commitment to diversity, inclusion, and understanding. By providing a platform for the voices of the transgender community, the college continues to foster a supportive and affirming campus atmosphere for all students.
