Student Healthcare and Counseling Services

Health Services at Newberry College contributes to the physical, academic, emotional, and social development of students by offering high-quality healthcare.

Through an exciting partnership with Newberry Health, students can receive general healthcare services at the Newberry College Health Clinic, a new state-of-the-art facility located right on campus.

Counseling services are available to students who are experiencing emotional, behavioral, or learning difficulties. Our on-campus licensed therapists offer confidential assessments, individual therapy, and collaborative work with physicians to provide our students with a supportive environment. Counseling services are located in Student Affairs in the O.L. Casey building.

Information for Students and Families About Student Health and Student Health Insurance

Students at Newberry College are very strongly advised, encouraged, and expected to have health insurance.  Insurance coverage may be through a parent’s or family’s plan, a state health plan, a state healthcare exchange plan, or a private purchased plan.  Health insurance ensures that students can receive medical care, including doctor office visits, urgent care clinics, medical prescriptions, or emergency treatment when needed without the worry of facing overwhelming costs.  Health insurance is not inexpensive, but a medical emergency or unexpected medical costs without health insurance can be much higher and may impact someone’s life for many years.  Health insurance remains the best option for containing and managing medical and emergency personal health costs.  The College is not financially responsible for students’ health needs, and health care or insurance are not covered by any fees at the College.

All student-athletes participating at Newberry College, and all international students* at Newberry College are required to have health insurance and will be required to carry insurance.  This may be part of a College offering if they are not covered within a parent’s or family’s insurance plan.

The Newberry Health Clinic at Newberry College, is located on campus, and offers convenient access to general healthcare clinic services for students.  All services received at this clinic are the financial responsibility of the student.  Insurance cards must be presented at the time of service; otherwise, a student will be asked to pay cash or with a credit card at the time of service.  This is also true of all of the healthcare and urgent care clinics in the Newberry area, as well as the Newberry Health hospital.

If you are not insured or have a state or government-funded plan that does not work in South Carolina, we strongly suggest you purchase some level of additional health insurance applicable in South Carolina. Newberry College does not provide health care services or health insurance.

*International students and student athletes have specific health insurance requirements and should talk with their representatives and athletic department staff for guidance.
