JOB DESCRIPTION

Newberry College, a small Lutheran liberal arts college in South Carolina is seeking an Assistant Professor of Finance. This is a full-time, assistant professor position in the Business Division. Teaching load will include at least two first-year level classes each semester and ordinary teaching load for faculty is four courses per semester. The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of working with diverse populations and engaging students through personalized pedagogies to be active participants in their learning.  The successful candidate will engage in creative and alternative strategies to help students grasp material and build confidence in their abilities.

Newberry College seeks a full-time faculty appointment beginning August 2024. Over the last decade, and particularly in the last three years, Newberry College has experienced unprecedented growth in enrollment, academic programming, campus infrastructure, national recognition, and athletics. The fall 2023 student enrollment of more than 1,500 is an incredible one-year increase of 15 percent over the previous year. Not only is Newberry one of South Carolina’s fastest growing colleges, but it is also one of the most diverse, with approximately 50 percent of its students representing historically marginalized populations. The Division of Business is the largest academic unit at Newberry College.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Humanities at Newberry College seeks an innovative, collaborative Assistant Professor of History for a full-time, tenure-track position to begin August 2024. Primary responsibilities include teaching in African American and modern/contemporary American history (and other history areas of expertise) and helping to continue to develop the College’s African American Studies program. A full-time load consists of teaching 12-15 credit hours per semester – this position will carry a 12-hour load the first year – which will normally include two sections of HIS 120 (a one-semester American thematic survey) each semester. Service is also a significant part of this position. The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of working with diverse populations and engaging students through personalized pedagogies to be active participants in their learning. The ideal candidate will also have alternative strategies to help students grasp material and build confidence in their abilities.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong aptitude for teaching. A doctorate in history from an accredited college or university with fields in American history and African American history is required, although exceptional candidates with those fields who are A.B.D. will be considered. The ideal candidate will also have graduate coursework and experience teaching in African American Studies as well as African American History. The ideal candidate will contribute to the new African American Studies program at Newberry College by teaching courses such as Introduction to African American Studies, Critical Race Theory, and Special Topics in African American Studies.

C.  Adjunct Instructor

  • Master’s degree in nursing required. A master’s degree or higher with experience in simulation/advising and/or teaching in higher education is preferred. Those with relevant work history are strongly encouraged to apply.

D. The Simulation Lab Coordinator

  • Provides instruction, including demonstration, guided practice, and skill evaluation for nursing students.
  • Develops and implements high-quality learning and assessment simulations.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of simulations as educational and assessment tools.
  • Facilitates simulation scenarios and student participation with debriefing sessions.
  • Trains simulation users in simulation activities, operation of patient simulators, audio-visual equipment, and their maintenance.
  • Maintains and updates simulation and lab equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in the development of new curricula that are supported by simulation activities.
  • Coordinates maintenance of patient simulators, part-task trainers, and virtual equipment.

The Newberry College Communications Program invites applications for a part-time teaching position(s) as an instructor for its public relations and practical media courses. These courses are taught in a rotation and include an introductory seminar in public relations principles and practices; public relations research methods; managed practicum in which students work with third-party clients to gain practical experience; and a course in practical media fundamentals and public relations basics for students who are not majoring in Communications-related fields.

The Newberry College Communications Program invites applications for a studio tech/part-time teaching position in its broadcasting sequence. Duties will include assisting the faculty in the studio and control room during production class sessions; maintenance, upkeep and upgrade of studio and control room equipment; planning and scheduling of studio productions; and instructing at least one studio production course per semester, to be taught in an in-person format using the television production facilities on the Newberry College campus.

Newberry College (NCAA D2), located in Newberry, SC, is seeking applicants for our Sports Performance Graduate Assistant. This position will report to the Director of Strength, Conditioning, and Sports Performance, and collaborate with coaches and staff to achieve the overall mission of Newberry College and the athletic department.  The successful candidate’s employment includes full tuition waiver for Master of Science in Sports Management, off-campus housing, as well as a full meal plan.


JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design, implement, and manage in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs for multiple men’s and women’s Olympic sports.
  • Assist with the daily operation of the football strength and conditioning program as needed.
  • Communicate daily with sports medicine staff regarding athletes’ health and return to play progress.
  • Collaborate with sport coaches of assigned teams to monitor athlete training loads (including sport-specific training and strength and conditioning) and athletic development.
  • Assist with the daily upkeep and maintenance of two athletic weight rooms.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Admission Counselor is a full-time position that focuses on the recruitment of prospective students, the review of applications, and active participation in yield activities to ensure enrollment of a talented and diverse class. The Admission Counselor engages with high schools and community colleges in an assigned area and manages the interactions and various forms of communication with students, parents, high school counselors and alumni in that region. On campus, the Admission Counselor conducts information sessions, confers with admitted students/families and contributes to the success of visitation/recruitment programs. Collegial interaction with several College departments and external partners is on-going. Some evening and weekend work will be required so the Admission Counselor must be committed to working flexible hours to meet office and team needs. Additional special projects may be assigned by the Director of Admission as needed.


JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manage a recruitment territory, including roughly six - eight weeks of occasional travel and virtual engagement for recruitment.
  • Create and implement recruitment strategies to achieve recruitment goals.

Under administrative direction, the Head Coach of Esports & Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive all aspects of starting a competitive collegiate Esports program. The incumbent must fulfill these duties while adhering to all rules, guidelines, and principles as set forth by Newberry College, the Departments of Student Affairs as well as National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE). In addition, will assist in the areas of Housing and Residence Life.
This is a full-time, 12-month, Student Affairs professional staff position. The Head Coach of Esports & Residence Life Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Student Engagement and Director of Housing and Residence Life and works closely with her/him to carry out all designated responsibilities.

Coaching

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to develop students both academically and athletically.
  • Schedules and provides instruction for all practices, competitions, and events within College and Esports Leagues guidelines.

Housing & Residence Life

  • Serves under the Assistant Vice President of Student Engagement & Director of Housing and Residence Life.
  • Oversee Paraprofessional Staff within the Office of Housing & Residence live by serving traditional and non-traditional students in on and off-campus housing.
  • Serve as a member of the Housing & Residence Team by serving in on-call rotation for the year.
  • Have at least 10 hours a week in the housing office and attend all Housing & Residence Life staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Administration and Events

  • Report recruitment and retention to VPSA/DOS for inclusion in the President’s Council and Board of Trustees reports.
  • Responsible for scheduling, budget control, public relations, program promotions, academic support, and retention of students.
  • Effectively plan and implement Esports events in a complex environment with multiple campus centers, a traditional higher education setting, and online learning.
  • Responsible for adhering to the policies and regulations of the College and participating in collegiate esports leagues.
  • Responsible for the orientation of students to the College and esports leagues’ guidelines.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports in a timely manner; particularly regarding budget, eligibility, compliance, and travel documentation.
  • Work with Student Affairs to provide accurate data for individual and team accomplishments, as well as game scores.
  • Work closely with other departments and the campus community to educate and continue to build the Esports program.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  • Represent the College at conference, regional, state, and national meetings relating specifically to Esports.
  • Advocate for sponsorship opportunities related to program development.
  • Keep abreast of trends and issues in Esports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Bachelor’s degree required. Knowledge and experience with Esports games such as: League of Legends, Valorant, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Madden, Rocket League or similar games. Ability to effectively communicate with prospective students from point of inquiry through enrollment. A proven record of integrity, high principles, and demonstrated skills in developing and motivating students academically and athletically. Thorough knowledge of, or willingness to learn, all applicable National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) rules and Newberry College eligibility standards as they apply to Esports at Newberry College. Ability to coordinate all team travel and transportation in conjunction with the Student Affairs. Ability to implement marketing strategies. Knowledge of computer systems directly required for competitive Esports play and University administration. Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Experience in campus activities and event planning with focus on Campus Recreation. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office. Must be able to multi-task effectively. Experience with developing and maintaining budgets. Work evening and weekends as required of position. Knowledge of social media and content creation platforms.

The Office Manager is responsible for providing administrative support to the Registrar and performing front office duties in all areas related to student academic records, registration, and commencement.
This is an exciting time for Newberry College. On the wave of significant growth, the college is modernizing the Registrar’s office and making a significant investment in technology and staffing. Therefore, the new Office Manager will be responsible for learning new technology and engaging in new, automated processes. They will work closely with the offices of Admission, Financial Aid, and Student Accounts to maintain the accuracy and integrity of student records. The Office Manager reports to the Registrar.


JOB FUNCTIONS
Transcripts

  • Process electronic and paper transcripts requests daily.

Student Academic Records

  • Process Add/Drop, AW, Withdrawal forms, and suspension notifications and communicate with faculty and staff members as necessary.
  • Process grade charges, registration exceptions, change of advisors, and major declarations.
  • Process enrollment verification requests as needed.
  • Update student information after initial student check-in.
  • Process application of degree forms and order diplomas (3x/year).
  • Update National Clearinghouse and SC Department of Education information.

Office Responsibilities

  • Assist students, faculty, and staff who enter the office.
  • Primary phone contact.
  • Pick up and process mail.
  • Handle email for the Registrar’s office.
  • Order office supplies and prepare Request for Payment forms.
  • Organize diplomas and align for distribution at rehearsal and commencement.
  • Oversee student workers.
  • Work with Herff Jones on academic eligibility for ring orders.

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Bachelor’s degree with higher education experience or associate degree with related experience in higher education, academic policies, and external reporting processes. Experience with Jenzabar, InfoMaker, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and document imaging software are strongly preferred. Strong oral and written skills are required. Also strongly preferred are the ability to respond to urgent situations, prioritize work, and complete assignments independently. JOB DESCRIPTION

This position (Success Coach: Career Services and Academic Success) is under the supervision of the Director of The Office of Career and the Assistant Dean of Center for Student Success. The position will be split between the areas of Career Services and Center for Student Success- Academic Success & Student Retention. Newberry College is seeking a Career Coach to provide support and guidance to all students regarding the development and implementation of activities related to career services, including employer outreach/relations, event planning and facilitation (workshops, presentations, and career fairs), record and data management, and individual career support and guidance.  


JOB FUNCTIONS
Career Success Coach (50% of position)

  • Assist with individual student appointments and classroom presentations (including Col 102 career exploration), and campus career workshops.
  • Design and lead at least one medium size intensive workshop per semester such as mock interviews and etiquette lunch, mocktails, and networking events.
  • Assist with large scale career/grad school fairs.
  • Manage and promote the career clothing closet.
  • Assist with Final Destination Survey follow up outreach.
  • Manage social media presence/accounts and complete a social media content assessment and improvement plan.

Academic Success Coach (50% of position)

  • Provides academic assistance and advising to a select group of students (populations vary-undeclared, academic at risk, first year students, etc.)
  • Manages a caseload of assigned students, providing them with academic assistance; monitors students; academic progress, and works closely and collaboratively with coaches, faculty, and staff to develop needed interventions to ensure their academic success.
  • Provides academic assistance and advising to a select group of students (populations vary- undeclared, academic at risk, first year students, etc...)
  • Manages a caseload of assigned students, providing them with academic assistance; monitors students’ academic progress, and works closely and collaboratively with coaches, faculty, and staff to develop needed interventions to ensure their academic success.
  • Outreach assigned students as needed – based on current targeted initiative/program- calling, texting, emailing students until desired messaging is received.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, and monitor academic plans for assigned students- including regular scheduled meetings and providing appropriate academic assistance.
  • Initiates and coordinates creative student success programs and services to better meet the needs of students, which may include campus tutoring, programs to support first generation and undecided students, peer mentoring, athletic enrichment, etc.
  • Responds to student issues and concerns; works closely with students to resolve all issues to ensure ongoing satisfaction with the program and successful progress to completion.
  • Provides regular updates to Assistant Dean concerning retention risks and intervention support, and effective solutions where appropriate.  
  • Teaches the first-year seminar course and/or academic skills class as requested by Assistant Dean.
  • Serve as primary contact person for Academically Ineligible Students – working with Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • Attend CSS staff meetings, SIT, RAG, and assist with AORI, as needed.
  • Member of a dynamic staff who works collaboratively with campus partners to develop programs, interventions and strategic initiatives to promote student success and persistence.  
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of The Office of Career and the Assistant Dean of Center for Student Success.

 

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Bachelor’s degree required, however a Master’s degree in counseling, education, student development or a field in higher education HIGHLY preferred. Two years of related higher education experience.
Minimum of two years’ experience in programming and presenting workshops/teaching. Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations. Must be able to work independently, as part of a team, and to lead others. Must be articulate and able to present well in writing, verbally, and via technology. Global Career Development Facilitator Certified (preferred).
