Dufford Diversity and Inclusion Week

Newberry College will host the seventh annual Dufford Diversity and Inclusion Week from Oct. 21 – 28, 2019, as part of its efforts to promote appreciation for diversity and create a culture of inclusiveness that values, respects and supports of every person. All events are free and open to the public except where noted.

 

“Each year, we host a variety of stimulating events that we hope will help students, faculty and staff broaden their perspectives,” said Dr. Peggy Barnes-Winder, director of Diversity Education at Newberry College. “Our goal is to help participants develop a greater understanding and appreciation of the unique differences of our humanity and the values and beliefs that form our individual identities.”

Oct. 21, Monday: Keynote: Judge Richard Gergel: Unexampled Courage at Newberry Opera House, 7 p.m.  Book signing and light refreshments in lobby afterwards

 

Oct. 22, Tuesday: “Agent of Change” Fair    Eleazer Arena 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. (groups/organizations to set up tables and provide information to help students/ faculty/ staff/ community supportive resources (i.e. sexual trauma center, literacy council, Living HOPE, Mental Health, Sister Care, Lifebridge of SC, Westview Behavioral, Visions of Women, SC Youth Suicide Prevention, Light House for Life, First Steps, and more… “Agents Of Change”

 

Oct. 22, Tuesday, Dorlisa Adams- Vision of Women – Interactive presentation, 3 p.m., Kohn Lecture Hall. 

 

Oct. 23- Wednesday Chapel, The Rev. Fredrick L. Smith, pastor of Newberry's Bethlehem Baptist Church, 10:10 a.m., Wiles Chapel.

 

Oct. 25, Friday: Speaker: Agent of Change: Mrs. Nikky Finney  2 p.m., Wiles Chapel. Book signing to follow
