Hispanic Heritage Month 2026

Start: 2026/09/15 End: 2026/10/15
All Day
Event Details:

One of the great privileges we have at Newberry is celebrating and honoring one another and where we come from. One of the ways we do this on campus is through programming that is specific to nationally recognized Heritage and History Months.

The first of these is Hispanic Heritage Month: Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 to October 15. It began as a week-long celebration in 1968 under President Johnson and was expanded to a month by President Reagan 20 years later in 1988. The month-long celebration provides more time to properly recognize the significant contributions Hispanic/Latino Americans have made in the United States.

Below is the main schedule put together by our Hispanic Heritage Month Planning Committee, but if your Department, Academic Area, or RSO are hosting any additional events, we'd love to know about them so please do not hesitate to share those!

We look forward to kicking everything off on September 15 at lunchtime in the Cafeteria - shout out to the Cafeteria staff for sponsoring this first event!
