The Newberry College Department of Music invites you to a special concert featuring a cornucopia of dance music, performed by college students, alumni and faculty. The event, "Dance the Night Away" with Wanda Neese and friends, will be held Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. the Alumni Music Center's West Recital Hall.
"In a nutshell, the goal of this program is just sheer enjoyment for the performers and the concert attendees," said Neese. "A few of us have wanted to create a program of a few of our favorite pieces from previous concerts. The common thread was that they were all types of dances. I tried to put together a program that includes dances which represent the Baroque style up to modern day works."
The concert will include Waltzes of Russian and Ukrainian composers, Argentine Tangos by Piazzolla, Sambas (one a new work by a Russian composer), a Rachmaninoff Polka, a dance from "The Sound of Music," a dance from the movie "Pride & Prejudice," a Bolero, the Charleston, and Chubby Checker's Twist.
The dances will be performed by piano, duets of piano and other instruments, and a few ensemble pieces. The event is free & open to the public.
