Bio:
Akio Brown returned to his alma mater, Newberry College, in August 2025 to serve as the Residence Life Coordinator for Upperclassmen. He brings a strong background in residence life, student support, and general education after having previously served students in K–12 education as a Kindergarten teacher, Third Grade Reading/ELA teacher, and Intensive Reading teacher at the high school level in Jacksonville, Florida.
Brown holds a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from Georgia Southern University and a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Newberry College.
During his time as a student at Newberry, he was actively involved in campus life through multiple leadership roles, including Student Body President and Junior Class President within the Student Government Association. He also served as a Resident Advisor, Vice President and Mentor for the First-Year Experience program, Muller Center Student Leader in the Office of Community and Belonging, and Student Ambassador in the Office of Enrollment Management.
