Bio:
Dr. Ziqing Guan is an Adjunct Flute Instructor at Newberry College and a Wm. S. Haynes Flute Young Artist. An active soloist, chamber musician, orchestral flutist, and educator, she has presented guest recitals at East Tennessee State University and Georgia College & State University and performed at events including the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention and Musicartissimo Flute Master Class and Recital in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. She has also performed with the Long Bay Symphony Orchestra, Aiken Symphony Orchestra, Aiken Civic Orchestra, Spartanburg Philharmonic, and Rock Hill Symphony. Since 2024, she has served as a Flute Teaching Fellow at Interlochen Arts Camp.
Dr. Guan has received finalist and prize-winning honors in numerous national and international competitions, including the Byron Hester Competition, San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition, Mid-South Flute Society Young Artist Competition, and South Carolina Flute Society Young Artist Competition. She was a quarterfinalist in the 2022 National Flute Association Young Artist Competition. Her primary teachers include Dr. Jennifer Parker-Harley, Dr. Adah Jones, and Professor Qi Yan.
A certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise since 2021, Dr. Guan combines her expertise in music and fitness to promote musician wellness. Her doctoral research, Injury Prevention Exercise Guidelines for Flutists, focuses on strength training, mobility, conditioning, and strategies for preventing playing-related musculoskeletal disorders. She has presented her wellness research at the NFA Online Event Series, South Carolina Flute Society Festival, Haynes Health & Wellness Summit, and Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. In 2023, she founded Musician Wellness Studio, dedicated to promoting healthy, balanced practice habits and the physical and mental well-being of musicians.
