Ginger came to Newberry College in 2009 after a long career in Richland County School District One. She spent 22 years as a classroom teacher, 3 years as a curriculum coordinator, and 8 years as the Early Childhood Education Coordinator for the District. While in Richland One, she was the Teacher of the Year at Meadowfield Elementary School and the District Reading Teacher of the Year. She has done numerous presentations at state and national conferences for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the International Literacy Association (ILA). In addition, she worked with South Carolina Educational Television to develop online assessments for the Magic School Bus series and with Public Broadcasting in filming actual classroom lessons for the Math Grows Up series. Ginger served on the Board of Richland County First Steps, and she is currently on the Advisory Board for the Early Childhood Program at Midlands Technical College. She is a Master Trainer for the Center for Child Care and Career Development.
Ginger did not attend Newberry College, but she has strong family connections to the college and the town. Both her mother and aunt hold Newberry Education degrees, and several cousins are also graduates. As a child, she spent lots of time in Newberry visiting her grandmother. Her parents were married and she was christened in Newberry's Aveleigh Presbyterian Church. Finally, six generations of her family are buried in Newberry at West End and Rosemont Cemeteries. She says, "Coming to Newberry College felt like coming home."
