A native of South Carolina, Dr. Roberts graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina. while at USC, he earned the prestigious Performers Certificate and was inducted into four honor societies. Dr. Roberts also graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Texas where he received the Most Outstanding Graduate Student in Percussion Award. Roberts dissertation, Technical Analysis and Performance Guide to the Khan Variations for Solo Marimba by Alejandro Vinao, was published in 2010.

Prior to joining the faculty at Newberry College in 2012, Dr. Roberts was a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas, serving as conductor for the percussion ensemble. Roberts was the Assistant Band Director at Edinburg North High School in Texas where he taught percussion methods and the Cougar Steel Band. Roberts has also served as Percussion Caption Head for the Swansea, Pelion, A.C. Flora, Dutch Fork, Ridgeview, Edinburg North, and Brooklyn-Cayce High School Marching Bands.

Dr. Roberts can be seen on the recently released DVD Percussive Palooza, featuring the North Texas Wind Symphony with marimba artist Keiko Abe.

Presently, Dr. Roberts teaches The Scarlet Spirit Marching Band (MUE 101), The Newberry Jazz Combo (MUE 105), The Newberry Percussion ensemble (MUE 108), and Percussions Methods for Music Education (MUA 213).
