Sept. 10, 2017 -- Newberry Classes Cancelled Monday; Staff Office Remain Open

The National Weather Service has placed several counties in South Carolina under a High Wind Warning for Monday, September 11, 2017. As such, and out of an abundance of caution, classes for Monday will be canceled. Residential students are encouraged to remain in their residence halls as much as possible.  Food Service will still be provided and students are urged to use great caution when traversing the campus.Student athletes who are in season and either practicing or competing will be advised by their coaches. Administrative offices will be open on Monday; however, should staff members, regardless of position, believe it unsafe for travel to work, they should notify their immediate supervisor.

Sept. 8, 2017 -- Newberry College to Continue Normal Operations

According to current projections for Hurricane Irma, the weather outlook continues to improve for the Newberry County area and South Carolina overall. The likelihood of the storm reaching this part of the state has dropped significantly. Based on the latest projections from the National Weather Service, we believe the campus can safely continue normal operations and we have NO PLANS TO CANCEL CLASSES ON MONDAY.

Nothing is more important than the safety of our students, faculty and staff. We will closely monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend and notify you through the E2Campus alert system, social media and web posts if there are any notable changes. If we close campus, daily food service will continue to be available. If you’re not already an E2Campus subscriber, go to the Security tab on Wolf Den to sign up.

We believe the campus is the safest place for students to be this weekend Traffic will be extremely heavy as Florida residents continue to evacuate north. We encourage you to stay off the roads as much as possible. During heavy winds, we urge you to stay inside to avoid the chance of injury from falling tree branches or blowing debris. It’ll be a great weekend to get ahead of your reading assignments or just do some Netflix binge-watching, so take advantage of it!

Sept. 6, 2017 -- Newberry College Will Remain Open, Continues to Monitor Conditions

Although Hurricane Irma does not currently present a direct threat to the Newberry area, we are working closely with our local emergency response center, State Emergency Management, the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service to monitor the progress of the storm. The College will be part of a coordinated, community-wide emergency response should conditions warrant this course of action. Based on our daily briefings with these agencies, there are currently no plans to evacuate the area or detour traffic. We will post updates as needed via our emergency alert system, email, social media and the College website. For families in the path of Hurricane Irma, we’re praying for you!
