Newberry College has named Joel Vander Horst to serve as Dean of Enrollment Management, a role he has filled as an interim appointee since October 2015.
“Joel has been a strong contributor from the very start of his tenure at the College,” said Newberry College President Dr. Maurice W. Scherrens. “He stepped seamlessly into the interim position and has continued ever since to demonstrate his leadership and ability to get results.”
In his role as Dean of Enrollment Management, Vander Horst leads both the Admission and Financial Aid units of the College. He is part of the senior leadership team that directs the overall strategic plan of the institution. Earlier this year, he served on the Program Prioritization Process committee tasked with conducting a thorough, data-driven evaluation of all academic and administrative units of the College for the purpose of honing the College’s strategic focus.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue leading the College’s enrollment efforts on a permanent basis,” Vander Horst said. “I am blessed with a strong team of hard-working, goal-oriented Admission and Financial Aid professionals who consistently exceed their performance metrics. I look forward to working with them and collaborating with our colleagues campuswide in the years ahead.”
Vander Horst joined Newberry College in August 2013 as Director of Admission, where he was responsible for developing and executing recruitment strategies designed to increase freshmen and transfer enrollment. He led the team responsible for bringing in a record-breaking incoming class in 2014 (a 19 percent increase from the previous year).
Prior to joining Newberry, Vander Horst served as Assistant Director of Admission (2007-2011) and then as Associate Director of Admission (2011-2013) at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., where he consistently met the enrollment goals for the territories he managed.
Vander Horst earned his Master of Business Administration degree with an International Business focus from Lynn University in 2006. He received a B.S. in Business Administration with a Finance and Economics specialization and minor in Computer Science in 2005 from Mars Hill College.
Vander Horst lives in Chapin, S.C., with his wife and son.
