Ariel Fox of Batesburg, S.C., was crowned Miss Newberry College February 9 at the annual Miss Newberry College pageant held at the Newberry Opera House.

Fox, a senior business administration major and a communications minor, is a member of Kappa Delta sorority.

This is a dream come true, Fox says. Ive always wanted to compete in a bigger pageant system because in the past I have only competed in festival pageants but now I get to compete in Miss South Carolina.

Seventeen contestants fought for the crown at the pageant, sponsored by the Newberry College Student Government Association. Director of Theatre, Patrick Gagliano, emceed the pageant along with Miss Newberry College 2005,Quian Anderson as Mistress of Ceremonies. The Miss Newberry College Pageant featured a parade of contestants, a sportswear competition, an evening gown competition and an optional talent competition. Contestants were also scored on interviews that were held earlier that day.

Dean of Students, Kay Banks, played an important role in orchestrating the event and getting everything organized.

I am excited because once again, the pageant is gaining momentum and we have young ladies that want to participate and have fun, said Banks. I am also glad to have taken the pageant to another level so that the winner can participate in the Miss South Carolina pageant.

Other winners include Miss Freshman,Ashlyn Bowers; Miss Sophomore,Micaela Campbell; Miss Junior,Alexandrea Cromer and Miss Senior and overall talent winner, Juliana Morris.

Fox will represent Newberry College in the 2013 Miss South Carolina Pageant on the week of July 6th 13th in Columbia, S.C.
