Newberry College Declares Sept. 14 Lutheran Day

August 27, 2019

NEWBERRY — Newberry College will hearken to its faithful origins when the Wolves football team opens at historic Setzler Field Sept. 14. The season’s first home game is Lutheran Day, a tradition that welcomes members of the Lutheran community to campus for an afternoon of fun, fellowship and football.

“It’s Lutheran Day, and my goal is to encourage Lutherans to come see our campus, enjoy the football game, they can have a tour of the campus if they would like, and to just see how we’re growing and how we’re doing,” said Campus Pastor Ernie Worman.

Lutheran Day participants receive a student-designed T-shirt, a wristband that doubles as a game ticket, and a hot dog, chips and a beverage. Campus tours and tailgating spaces are also available by request with RSVP.

The cost is $15 for adults and children, payable by cash or check the day of the game, and Lutheran pastors are admitted free. Registration begins at noon, followed by the game against the Florida Tech Panthers at 1 p.m.

“We’ve been a Lutheran college for 163 years, we’re growing, highest attendance we’ve ever had, we’ve seen a lot of upgrades to the campus,” said Worman. “Our school is changing and growing and pretty, and we just want to invite our Lutheran partners to come enjoy the college they have created, sustained and supported.”

Interested churches and individuals are asked to RSVP by Sept. 6 to Worman by email at Ernie.Worman@newberry.edu, or by phone at (803) 947-2052. Please send the number of attendees, and whether a campus tour or tailgating space is requested.
