NEWBERRY — Newberry College is among the best colleges in the southeast, according to an annual report by College Consensus.

Newberry was named sixth out of 44 southern colleges and universities, ranking highest among South Carolina colleges and surpassing last year’s No. 10 designation.

“We are absolutely honored to be listed among the best institutions in the southeast,” said President Maurice Scherrens. “We’ve made tremendous progress in so many areas in the past year alone, with so much more on the way. It’s always a blessing to be recognized for how far you’ve come, and we strive to continue making a difference in the lives of our students.”

The collegiate ranking guide examines published evaluations and thousands of student reviews to provide comprehensive quality scores for colleges and universities across the United States. Scores combine average ratings from college rankings publishers and online student reviews for a comprehensive consensus score.

Newberry earned a 59.6 Publisher Consensus and a 74 Student Consensus for an overall score of 66.8.

“Newberry College has been transforming lives for more than 160 years by focusing on our commitment to passion, purpose and personal attention,” said Christopher Harris, dean of enrollment management. “To be recognized by our students and colleagues is proof that we are making a difference in South Carolina.”

Newberry joins High Point University, ranked first, and two other S.C. institutions in the top 10, Coker College and the University of South Carolina at Aiken, at ninth and 10th, respectively.
