Dr. Mike Beggs earned his Ph.D. in Theology (Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity) from the University of Notre Dame. His Ph.D. work explored the first Christian history and Christian identity formation in Greco-Roman antiquity which has led to a life-long interest in the nature of Christian identity in a multicultural church. His master’s work at Yale Divinity School focused on Early Christian Theology. He received his B.A. in Biblical Studies and B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education from Abilene Christian University.
Prior to joining the faculty at Newberry College in 2002, Dr. Beggs taught at Livingstone College (Salisbury, NC) as well as Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, IL). He has also served as the pastor in churches in Illinois, Indiana and Connecticut. Over the past few years, Dr. Beggs has directed grant funded programming serving the needs of immigrant children in Columbia and Newberry County. He has also served as a presenter on World Religions and a panelist on local Interfaith Dialogue forums.
