Bio:

Dr. Burnett received her A.S., A.A., and Certificate in Health Science and Nursing reparation from Midlands Technical College, her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of South Carolina, and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Science with a specialty in Neuroscience from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Prior to joining the faculty at Newberry College in 2011, she taught Biology and Chemistry at the University of South Carolina-Union and Anatomy and Physiology at Midlands Technical College. Her research interests include characterization of interneurons in rat perirhinal cortex and examination of changes in GABAergic interneuronal subpopulations in perirhinal cortex in a pilocarpine model of temporal lobe epilepsy. Dr. Burnett is the advisor for pre-medicine and pre-pharmacy and serves as Faculty Advisor for the Future Medical Professionals Association at Newberry College.

She resides in Irmo, SC, with her family, and she has five adult children (all college graduates) and several grandchildren.
