Bio:

Dr. Patrick Casey joined the Newberry College faculty in August 2015 after a year-long visiting appointment in music education at Middle Tennessee State University and a five-year tenure in Germany as a vocal and instrumental music educator with the U.S. Department of Defense schools.  His return to primary and secondary teaching followed over two decades of instrumental music instruction in post-secondary education, including conducting and teaching appointments at Indiana University, Virginia Tech, the University of Central Missouri and the University of Oregon.

Casey’s formal education includes degrees in music education and conducting from The Ohio State University, Northwestern University, and Arkansas Tech University, where his principal teachers included Craig Kirchhoff, Richard Blatti, John Paynter, Frank Crisafulli, Hal Cooper, Andy Anders and Vicki Kiehl.

While in Germany, Casey served as Music Director of the Rheinland-Pfalz International Choir (2008-2013), and as President of the European Music Educators Association (2012-2013).   In earlier times, Dr. Casey served two-year terms as the Southwest division chair of the National Band Association and as the Missouri state chair of the College Band Directors National Association.  He holds honorary memberships in Tau Beta Sigma, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Beta Mu, and his continuing professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, and the South Carolina Music Educators Association, where he currently serves as Immediate Past-President of the SCMEA Higher Education division (since June 2019).

After completing his full-time teaching career at Newberry, Dr. Casey remains - now in retirement-as music director of the Newberry Chamber Ochestra. He and his wife Elisabeth Ramirez live in Newberry.
