Bio:
Halvorson received her bachelor's and master's degrees in kinesiology and exercise physiology from the University of Tennessee. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in kinesiology through UNC Greensboro.
Halvorson is a certified strength coach (NSCA-CSCS) and also holds her USATF Level 2 Coaches Certification, specializing in the Throws. Additionally, Professor Halvorson is a former throws coach for several high school, club and college track teams, coaching shotput, discus, hammer and weight, as well as a former student-athlete for the University of Tennessee.
In addition to her certifications, Halvorson also holds research interests in concussions and concussion recovery in female athletes, exercise prescription after traumatic brain injury, and injury prevention and strength acquisition in youth strength and power athletes.
Before coming to Newberry College, Halvorson worked as an instructor at Anderson University and as a track coach, strength coach and science teacher at Hardin Valley Academy.
In her spare time, Halvorson enjoys reading, drawing, playing violin and guitar, and training for highland games competitions. She also enjoys spending time with her two cats, Sunny and Solomon, and her husband, Andrew.
