Newberry College Lettermans Club Inducts Six New Members Into the Newberry Athletic Hall of Fame
September 22, 2014
The Newberry College Lettermans Club has inducted six new members to the Newberry Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend. The Class of 2014 inductees are: Brandon Downey (cross country), Tonique Frasier (womens basketball), Rick Ladimir (mens soccer), Josh Stepp (football), Virgil Wallace (mens basketball) and Tymere Zimmerman (football and mens basketball). The six inductees were honored on campus with a special luncheon on Saturday, September 13, followed by recognition at that evenings football game against Limestone. The banquet was held in Kaufmann Hall on campus at noon on Saturday, with a very limited number of tickets available at the door.
Brandon Downey is the first cross-country runner to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Downey still holds every program record and is the only Newberry runner to ever earn NCAA all-region honors. Tonique Frasier was a star womens basketball player for Newberry from 2004-08, leading Newberry to their most successful run in program history. Rick Ladimir was undoubtedly the top offensive player in the history of Newberrys mens soccer program, earning a number of honors and writing the record book. Josh Stepp was the quarterback for Newberry Collges most successful run in program history and re-defined the terms of success. Virgil Wallace led Newberry starting in 1978 to four consecutive 20-win season, which has not been approached in 30 seasons. Tymere Zimmerman was a two-sport star athlete and record breaker at Newberry College. His primary success came on the football field, where he demolished the record books at wide receiver.
