President Scherrens Reflects on Fall 2022
by Dr. Maurice Scherrens | President of Newberry College - November 28, 2022
Congratulations! We have reached the end of an amazing fall semester, and we are nearing the beginning of the holiday season. We could not be prouder of all you have accomplished in the classroom, on the field, and in this community.
Just this past summer, we honored our first graduates at the master’s level. We celebrated a conference championship in football for the second consecutive season. We cheered our women’s field hockey team to the SAC semi-finals. We watched our women’s triathletes compete in the national championships for the second time in the program’s first two years. We launched two new clinical partnerships in the health sciences and added several new scholarships and new opportunities for success. We welcomed our largest incoming class in school history, propelling our student body to over 1,300 for the first time. Finally, we opened the Wolves Pantry in the Weber Campus Ministry House to help fill the gap for those on campus dealing with food insecurity and inaccessibility.
These are just a few of the achievements we have experienced this fall as a campus community. Let us give thanks for how far we’ve come, savor this moment, and look ahead to the bold successes yet to come.
To our December graduates, we are so proud of all you have accomplished in your Newberry College careers. We look forward to celebrating with you at commencement on Friday, Dec. 9.
As a reminder for everyone returning in 2023, registration for January Term (online), spring semester, and May Term courses is open on Wolf Den. If you have an outstanding balance owed to the College, please take care of that before you leave campus.
In closing, I wish you all the best as we head into exams, as you travel home or as you settle in for the holiday season. I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Take care and Go Wolves!
