World-Renowned Pianist Pawel Checinski to perform at Newberry College

Newberry, SC, November 21, 2011 The Department of Music at Newberry College will be hosting renowned pianist Dr. Pawel Checinski in an upcoming performance hosted by Newberrys Fine Arts and Lectures Committee. A repeat visitor to the College, Checinski is a favorite among the Newberry students, faculty, and community for his energetic performances and interaction with both musicians and musical fans alike.
The concert will consist of the music from Hungarian composer and concert pianist, Franz Liszt, in celebration of the bicentennial year of Liszt's birth. Pieces will include the famous B-Minor Sonata, the Fantasy on Two Motives from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, and other works.
In addition to performing, Checinskis visits often include working in master classes or private lessons with students in Newberrys music program, preparatory students, and with visiting students from other schools.
His interaction with the students is a priceless experience for those here at Newberry, said Adjunct Instructor of Music Wanda Neese. Our music students have advantages in Newberry's small classes and small town performance opportunities, yet they also have the benefits of visits from world-renowned musical performers and educators like Checinski."
Checinski was born in Lodz, Poland, and trained at the Music Academy in Warsaw and the Julliard School. He has taught at the Pennsylvania State University, the University of British Columbia, and Roosevelt Universitys Chicago College of Performing Arts. He also taught at Columbia College in South Carolina, where Neese received her Bachelors and Masters degree in music.
The concert will take place at 8 p.m. on November 28 at the West Recital Hall of the Alumni Music Center on Newberrys campus. The concert is open to the public and free of charge.
